Post-PR Email

After your PR, you are required to send an email that includes your commitments to earn your promotion. We'll walk you through what to include and some points that will guide you as you write.

Step #1: complete your pr

As part of your PR, you will meet with your YDM and a BTM to discuss your progress at MTW and some focus areas for your growth as you work towards your next promotion. In this meeting, you will be asked to make some commitments before being able to earn your next promotion.

As a staff, we want to know what these commitments are, so we can support you towards them and hold you accountable for them as you earn that promotion. Within one week of your PR meeting, you will be expected to write an email including the feedback you got and your commitments to earn partner over the next two weeks.

It's very important to write down the feedback you heard in your meeting and what remember what commitments you agreed to. Without these notes, you won't be able to write your email.

Below, you can find an example of how to structure your notes for the PR:

A chart with four headings where you can take notes: Strengths, Growth Areas, I will commit to..., MTW will commit to...

Step #2: write your email

When you write your email, be sure to include:

1. A professional subject line

Ex: My Commitments in Earning Partner

2. A professional greeting

Ex: Dear Waltham Staff OR Dear Boston Staff,

3. A brief description of the positive feedback you heard

Example: I heard that I am a positive team player and really dependable.

4. A brief description of where you would like to grow

Example: I need to work on my ability to give my teammates feedback at check-out, plan the shift at the beginning, and I must complete the common application as part of my college applications in order to meet the expectations of being a Partner at MTW.

5. A list of what MTW is committing to

Example: MTW will commit to:

  • Providing register training

  • Supporting me to complete the FAFSA

  • Providing opportunities to learn how to do end-of-shift financials

6. A list of what you are committing to

Example: I will commit to:

  • Learning how to work the register independently

  • Advocating for opportunities to learn SCORD board and financials

  • Signing up for a Hi-SET test date

  • Completing two practice Hi-SET tests

7. What your promotion level (Partner, Senior Partner, etc.) means to you

What have you learned from other Partners or Senior Partners? How do you plan to embody the qualities of a leader on shift?

8. Why you feel like you're ready to step up to the next level

What are the things going on in your life that show you you're ready to keep progressing at MTW?

8. A professional closing

Example:

Thank you for your time and support!

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

Step #4: check out an example

Subject: My Commitments in Earning Partner

To: sgraham@mtwyouth.org

Dear Boston Staff,

I recently sat down with Sheila and Evan for my performance review for partner. I heard that I am a positive team player and really dependable. They can count on me to show up on time for shifts and help out my shift when we're behind on the daily goals.

I need to work on my ability to give my teammates feedback at check-out, plan the shift at the beginning, and I must complete the common application as part of my college applications in order to be meeting expectations.

As I prepare for my performance review follow-up meeting, I want to exhibit partner material.

To help me do this, MTW will commit to

      • Providing register training

      • Supporting me to complete the FAFSA

      • Providing opportunities to learn how to do end-of-shift financial

I will commit to

  • Learning how to work the register independently

  • Advocating for opportunities to learn SCORD board and financials

  • Signing up for a Hi-SET test date

  • Completing two practice Hi-SET tests

Being a partner means leading the way for your team, setting a good example of kindness, respect, and accountability for coworkers. Because I have SNAP benefits set up, a new therapist who I like, and am regularly attending Hi-SET classes at X-Cel, I feel like I have enough things organized in my life to help me relax when I show up at MTW. Having these things figured out will create the room for me to really succeed at MTW.

Thank you for your time and support!

Sincerely,

Halley
