MassHealth is Massachusetts's public health insurance system. It is designed to provide coverage for low-income and middle class people in the state. At MTW, we can help you find out if you're eligible, and help you start your application.
STEP #1: know why it's important
There are many different ways we can make sure we're taking good care of ourselves. Accessing health insurance is just one way to make sure we're setting ourselves up for success down the line.
By enrolling in health insurance, you save money or get free access to things like doctors visits, medications, and mental health services. The more you can build a relationship with a doctor you trust, the more you can make sure you're getting the things you need to prevent health crises down the road.
STEP #2: know if you're eligible
MassHealth offers different types of coverage based on if you are:
A parent living with your children younger than 19 years of age
An adult caretaker relative living with children younger than 19 years of age to whom you are related by blood, adoption, or marriage
Younger than 19 years of age
A young adult 19 or 20 years of age
An adult 21 through 64 years of age
Pregnant
Disabled
HIV-positive
A breast or cervical cancer patient
The best way to know about your potential coverage is to gather your identifying documents and apply online.
STEP #3: gather your documents
When you apply for MassHealth, they want to know that you live in Massachusetts, your immigration status,* and if you are financially eligible.
To prove these things, you need to show them the following documents:
Proof of Residence
Mass ID, Paystub, or a billProof of Citizenship*
Birth Certificate or PassportProof of Income
Paystub*If you have immigrant status, you are still eligible for MassHealth.
STEP #4: apply online
Click Apply Now on the main page.
Click Create MA Login if you do not already have an account
Follow instructions from there on how to submit the necessary documents along with your application
STEP #5: re-enroll each year
To continue to receive MassHealth insurance, you need to re-enroll each year. To renew MassHealth click here and follow the instructions to complete Online, by Phone or by Mail.
