Senior Partner Statement
When you are promoted to the role of Senior Partner, you'll be asked to write a statement talking about how you've grown, qualities that a Senior Partner embodies, and your commitments to your goals.
Step #1: Reflect on Your Growth
MTW is a program that's designed to help you grow--as an employee, student, and an advocate in your community. Start off your statement with a few sentences on the ways you've grown since starting here.
Write a few sentences including:
New skills you've gained
Situations you've navigated well
S.M.A.R.T. goals you've achieved
Accomplishments that make you feel proud of your progress
Start off with: I've come a long way since I started here. I've developed skills in... I've grown a lot in...
Step #2: say what leadership looks like
As a Senior Partner, you'll have achieved several promotions. The experience you have in your business job and your YOU job will show, and people will look to you for advice, suggestions, and leadership.
As you prepare to take on this role, set the tone for how you approach leadership. Write a few sentences expressing:
What being a leader looks like.
What being a leader sounds like.
Qualities a leader has.
Values a leader holds.
Start off with: A Senior Partner is... A Senior Partner does...
Step #3: state your commitments
Becoming a Senior Partner is like any promotion at MTW; you'll be expected to make and follow through on commitments before being able to rise to the next level. You will end your Senior Partner statement with a promise of what you will do, and what plans you have after MTW.
State your commitments by naming:
Your education plan
Employment skills you want to gain
Self-Efficacy outcomes that you plan to get before moving on
Your education and employment goals after MTW
Start off with: As a Senior Partner, I commit to...
Step #4: Check out an example
Subject: My Senior Partner Statement
Dear Boston Staff,
I recently sat down with my YDM Sheila and my CSM Rachel to talk about my recent promotion to Senior Partner. I've come a long way since I started here. I've developed skills in marketing, events, and above all customer service. I went from being shy to talk to proactively engaging customers in our store. On the YOU job side, I've grown a lot in setting appropriate goals for myself, and not being so hard on myself when things get in the way.
In my time at MTW, I've been very inspired by the work ethic and leadership skills of other Senior Partners. To me, being a Senior Partner is not only about leading your team, but innovating, and building on the work that has already happens so that MTW is a better place for all youth. A Senior Partner celebrates accomplishments, especially by peers who are killing it on shift, but always asks in the back of their minds--what can we be doing better?--and meets with managers to move their ideas into actions.
At MTW, I commit to leading shifts, offering constructive feedback to managers and team members, and dedicating at least one hour a week to my senior partner project of creating training guides for our new receiving process. Outside of the building, I commit to applying to creative writing programs in the fall. My goal is to teach English at the high school level, and I know I can leverage the leadership skills I gain as a Senior Partner here down the line in my professional life.
As I said, it's been a long road here, and I'm so excited about what the future holds. Thank you for your time and support!
Sincerely,
Halley
